The Gabonese Football Federation (FEGAFOOT) has announced that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will be unavailable for his team’s opening match at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations against Cameroon.
Gabon’s all-time leading goalscorer featured for Marseille on Sunday as they beat Monaco 1-0, but he had a scare late on after limping off with a thigh injury in the 86th minute.
Both Aubameyang and Panthers head coach Thierry Mouyouma would have been relieved by the news that scans showed no serious damage.
However, the 36-year-old striker will continue to receive treatment at L’OM and will miss the Group F clash with the Indomitable Lions on December 24.
FEGAFOOT added that Aubameyang could return for the game against Mozambique four days later if his recovery goes well.
“After discussions with the national team’s medical staff, Olympique de Marseille’s medical team decided to handle his treatment in Marseille,” read an official statement from FEGAFOOT.
“The player will be unavailable for the December 24 match against Cameroon. Depending on his clinical progress and imaging results, he could be available for the December 28 match against Mozambique.”
