Zambia, the 2012 winners, and Comoros played to a 0-0 draw in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Group A match at the Mohamed V Stadium in Casablanca, Morocco, on Friday night.

The draw leaves Zambia’s Chipolopolo in second place in the standings ahead of their final group game which is against hosts Morocco on Monday. The Coelacanths, on the other hand, are placed fourth in the table ahead of Monday’s clash with Mali.

The Coelacanths were the better side in the opening exchanges and they managed to hit the back of the net through Myziane Maolida, who netted with a simple tap in in the 19th minute. However, the goal was disallowed due to a foul in the build up to Maolida scoring.

Chipolopolo improved as the match progressed – managing to keep possession in Comoros’ half. Lameck Banda and Kings Kangwa both failed to keep their attempts on target, and the score was 0-0 during half-time following a first-half which had no shots on target.

Zambia continued to enjoy more possession after the restart, but they were frustrated by the Coelacanths’ defence. Fashion Sakala and Kangwa saw their goal-bound attempts being blocked as pressure mounted on the Islanders’s backline.

With 13 minutes left, Comoros introduced veteran winger Faïz Selemani as they looked to snatch a late winning goal. Selemeni had a chance to become the hero in the 81st minute, but the 32-year-old failed to keep his header on target and the match ended in a 0-0 draw.
