After victory in their initial Group E encounter at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, Algeria could make it two wins on the bounce when they take on Burkina Faso at Stade Moulay Hassan on Sunday evening. Kick-off is at 19:30 CAT.

The Desert Foxes took to the Moulay Hassan Stadium this past Wednesday where they bagged a 3-0 win against Sudan in their first Group stage assignment.

A brace by Riyad Mahrez, coupled with a solitary strike by Ibrahim Maza saw Algeria put on one of the strongest performances during the opening round of the tournament.

As for Burkina Faso, the Stallions staged a dramatic 2-1 comeback victory against Equatorial Guinea at Stade Mohammed V on Wednesday.

Equatorial Guinea thought they grabbed a later winner through Marvin Anieboh in the 85th minute, only to be upstaged by Georgi Minoungou and Edmond Tapsoba who put Burkina Faso ahead in the 95th and 98th minute respectively.

In light of Algeria’s upcoming match, the Desert Foxes head coach Vladimir Petkovic believes his side needs to correct their mistakes showcased in their win against Sudan.

“The first match is always hard to predict. We played well, but then we made things complicated for ourselves by giving Sudan some chances,” he Petkovic said.

“The second match will be different. Of course, we’ll need to improve certain things, but we still won 3-0.”
