The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has slapped Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT) President Samuel Eto’o with a ban and a fine for misconduct during Cameroon’s loss to Morocco at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

This is according to a statement released by CAF on Thursday.

The Indomitable Lions fell to the tournament’s hosts in their quarterfinal clash at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat on Friday, losing 2-0 to the host nation.

Though the judgement dies not refer to any incident in specific, Eto’o was spotted in the stands gesturing angrily towards President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation Fouzi Lekjaa, who was seated alongside CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe.

For his outbursts during Cameroon’s loss, the governing body handed Eto’o a four-match ban and a fine of $20 000.

“The CAF Disciplinary Board found Mr Eto’o guilty of violating the principles of sportsmanship set out in Article 2(3) of the CAF Statutes and Article 82 of the CAF Disciplinary Code for his misconduct during the said match,” the statement reads.

FECAFOOT noted and has responded to the judgement, giving its “unwavering support” to Eto’o and saying the decision taken against its leader “lacks any explicit justification.”

“FECAFOOT further notes that the expedited procedure leading to this decision raises serious concerns regarding the fundamental requirements of a fair trial,” the federation said in response.

Though CAF will not provide any further comment on the matter, it remains to be seen whether FECAFOOT will challenge the ruling.
