Atlético Madrid has confirmed that Nigerian international Ademola Lookman has arrived in Madrid and is on the brink of joining the club from Atalanta.
This is according to a statement released by the club on its official website.
Lookman is a medical assessment and final meeting away from officially becoming an Atlético player.
“Atlético de Madrid and Atalanta have reached an agreement over the transfer of Ademola Lookman, 28-year-old Nigerian international forward who is already in Madrid. The agreement is subject to passing his medical and agreeing and formalizing his contract.”
The 2024 CAF Player of the Year attempted to force his way out of Atalanta in Serie A at the start of the season, refusing to play and accusing the club of “broken promises”.
The Spanish club beat Fenerbahçe to Lookman’s signature, with the Turkish giants losing out of the attacker.
Atlético currently sit in third place in LaLiga, 10 points behind league leaders Barcelona. Los Colchoneros have managed 13 wins, six draws and three losses in 22 league games.
They qualified for the UEFA Champions League play-offs and will face Club Brugge on 18 February and 24 February, with a spot in the knockout stage on the line.
