German giants Borussia Dortmund have launched a youth academy in Ghana, named the BVB International Academy Ghana.

This was announced by the club on Monday.

“Borussia Dortmund proudly announce the official launch of BVB International Academy Ghana, the club’s first International Academy on the African continent. The Academy officially opens in Accra in February 2026 and represents a major milestone for youth football development in Ghana,” reads a statement released on the club’s official website.

The institution, based at Achimota School in Accra, was formed in partnership with Accra Shooting Stars FC and will aim to provide structured football development for both boys and girls between the ages of six and 18.

It will follow Dortmund’s long established BVB training methodology, with a focus on discipline, leadership, education, nutrition, and personal development.

Former Ghanaian international and Dortmund player Ibrahim Tanko, who has been appointed as an ambassador for the BVB International Academy Ghana, believes the institute and its philosophy will greatly aid youth development in the country.

“Bringing the BVB philosophy to Ghana is something very special. This country has incredible talent and passion, and this academy will help young players develop the mindset and discipline needed to succeed,” said Tanko.

The new academy forms part of Borussia Dortmund’s global International Academy network, which includes institutions in the USA, the Caribbean, and Spain.
