Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany had jumped to the defence of Senegalese striker Nicolas Jackson following the team’s 4-1 victory over Borussia Monchengladbach at the Allianz Arena on Friday night.

Jackson, who started the fixture in the absence of Harry Kane, netted Bayern’s fourth goal of the game in the 79th minute.

The Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) winner is at the Bundesliga side on loan from Chelsea and has bagged four goals in 16 games in the German top division.

Before Friday’s fixture, the striker had scored only one goal in his last five Bundesliga starts.

Following the victory, Kompany described the scrutiny Jackson faces as unfair.

“He played very well today,” said Kompany.

“Since I arrived, I’ve noticed that when everything is going well with the team, people try to single out one or two players without any reason. The guy has done nothing wrong.”

“He has trained extremely well and he has won the Africa Cup of Nations,” he said.

“But somehow there are always stories about him. Last season it was Serge Gnabry or Kingsley Coman. Now it’s Nicolas Jackson. The reality is that our dressing room is calm.”

Bayern are in firm control of the Bundesliga and are 14 points ahead of second-placed Borussia Dortmund.
