CAF General Secretary Véron Mosengo-Omba has resigned amid ongoing controversy over the 2025 AFCON final, in which Senegal was stripped of its title in favour of Morocco.
In his official statement, the DR Congo national cited personal projects and said he was stepping down “with peace of mind” after clearing suspicions cast against him, while making no direct reference to the AFCON row.
“I have decided to step down from my position as Secretary General of CAF to devote myself to more personal projects,” Mosengo-Omba said, as per ESPN.
“Now that I have been able to dispel the suspicions that some people have gone to great lengths to cast on me, I can retire with peace of mind and without constraint, leaving the CAF more prosperous than ever.”
CAF President Patrice Motsepe revealed that Mosengo-Omba’s departure follows a request from DRC President Felix Tshisekedi to help with football development in his home country.
Nigeria’s Samson Adamu has taken over as interim General Secretary.
