Mohamed Salah is hoping to finish his Liverpool career on a high by helping them qualify for the UEFA Champions League, having scored in his final Merseyside derby against Everton on Sunday.

The Egypt international broke the deadlock in the 29th minute at the Hill Dickinson Stadium to register his ninth goal against the Toffees in this fixture, equalling the record held by Reds icon Steven Gerrard.

Beto restored parity for David Moyes’ side on 54 minutes, but their neighbours secured the win in dramatic fashion when Virgil van Dijk struck in the 10th minute of stoppage time.

The 2024-25 Premier League champions opened up a seven-point cushion to Chelsea in fifth place and Salah, who has now bagged three goals in his last four appearances, is keen to contribute more to the team in the final five games of the season.

“Scoring in the last derby feels great. The most important thing was helping the team gain stability and confidence,” Salah told Sky Sports.

“We knew before the match it would be tough and complicated, and I’m happy we got the win. With only a few matches left wearing the Liverpool shirt, I just hope to keep scoring and help the team qualify for the Champions League. I hope to say goodbye in the best possible way.”

The 33-year-old winger has seven goals and six assists for the Merseyside giants in the league this term, his lowest return since moving to Anfield in July 2017.
