The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has come down hard on Hohoe United following the club’s withdrawal from the ongoing 2025-26 Ghana Premier League season.

The team formerly known as Liberty Professionals gained promotion in 2025 alongside Eleven Wonders and Swedru All Blacks, but have found the going tough in the top flight this term.

Hohoe United won just seven of their opening 27 matches, but stopped honouring their fixtures since the start of April to protest “systemic unfairness” and “apparent bias” by the GFA.

Ghanaian football’s governing body announced on Friday that a three-year ban has been imposed on the Volta outfit, who will be demoted to Division Two at the start the of 2030-=31 campaign.

The GFA’s Disciplinary Committee took the decision after deeming that Hohoe United had been found guilty of misconduct after breaching Article 13 of the Ghana Premier League Regulations.

Part of the statement issued by the GFA read: “The Committee also directed the club to refund all forms of support received from the GFA for the 2025/26 season, including financial assistance and equipment.

“The decision further emphasised that the suspension does not absolve the club of any existing financial obligations owed to the GFA or its members.”
