Sierra Leone and Major League Soccer legend Kei Kamara has officially retired from professional football.

The 41-year-old spent the majority of his club career in MLS and played for a record 12 different clubs, scoring 147 MLS goals – the second-most in league history behind Chris Wondolowski (173).

“I never played for just one crest,” he said in a video announcing his retirement. “I played for the love of the game, and the places it carried me.”

Kamara played for Columbus Crew, San Jose Earthquakes, Houston Dynamo, Sporting Kansas City, New England Revolution, Vancouver Whitecaps, Colorado Rapids, Minnesota United, CF Montreal, Chicago Fire, Los Angeles FC and FC Cincinnati in the MLS.

His club career also featured spells for Norwich City and Middlesbrough in England, as well as HIFK in Finland.

The Sierra Leone-born forward made 45 appearances with the country’s national team, scoring eight goals. He was part of the Leone Stars’ squad at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.
