Nigerian winger Zadok Yohanna has been blocked from joining the Nigeria squad for the upcoming Unity Cup in London, England.

Swedish giants AIK have stated that their player is still in the final phase of his rehabilitation programme and is also needed for sporting reasons as an important member of their team.

This decision comes as a setback for Super Eagles coach Éric Chelle, who had given the exciting young winger his first-ever national team call-up.

“AIK Football is happy and proud that Zadok Yohanna has been selected for the Nigerian national team for the Unity Cup, which will be played in London between May 26-30, 2026,” a club statement read.

“The decision not to let him travel to London is based partly on the fact that he is in rehabilitation, but also on sporting reasons, as Zadok is an important player for AIK Football.

“We look forward to seeing Zadok represent the Nigerian national team in the future.”

In the Swedish Allsvenskan with AIK, the 18-year-old right winger has played 7 matches (all starts), scoring 2 goals and providing two assists in 580 minutes.

Nigeria will play Zimbabwe in the semi-final on 26 May 2026. Depending on the result, they will face either Jamaica or India in the final or third-place match on 30 May 2026 at The Valley in London.
