Mozambique head into the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations with a quiet but growing confidence, driven by a long-held ambition to reach the knockout rounds for the first time in their history. Under the guidance of experienced coach Chiquinho Conde, the Mambas have evolved steadily, transforming from outsiders into one of the continent’s most improved and intriguing teams.
This year marks their sixth AFCON appearance—and their second consecutive qualification after returning to the tournament in 2023. The objective for 2025 is clear and bolder than ever: progress beyond the group stage.

Versatile forward Clesio contributes cohesion and experience, linking the attack with maturity.
Their recent World Cup qualification campaign further highlights their progress. Mozambique finished third behind Algeria and Uganda, narrowly missing second place on goal difference. They pushed higher-ranked teams throughout, proving their rise is the result of genuine growth rather than fleeting momentum. Facing Ivory Coast, Cameroon and Gabon will test Mozambique’s development and resolve. The holders bring pedigree and star power, but Mozambique’s structure and pace could unsettle them.
