Burkina Faso made sure to add their name among the mix of teams who qualified for the Round of 16 at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations this week following a 2-0 win over Sudan in Group E at Stade Mohammed V on Wednesday evening.

The Falcons of Jadiane pushed for an opener inside the first 10 minutes of the match but often fell short at the final hurdle.

Despite Sudan’s early pressure, Burkina Faso took the lead in the 15th minute following a clinical move in transition. With Sudan caught in possession on the edge of their area, Lassina Traoré found the back of the net after a looping cross inside the area.

Sudan were awarded a penalty in the 23rd minute after Al Gozoli Nooh drew a foul inside the area, however, the Falcons of Jediane star missed from the spot.

Burkina Faso took control of the tie with a goal to the good while Sudan battled to make their way up field. Then, following a five-minute stoppage time at the end of the half, The Stallions took a slender lead into the break.

Burkina Faso commenced the second 45 just as they ended the first, on the attack while Sudan sat deep into their own area.

In what was a recurring theme throughout the second-half, Sudan found little success going forward as a result of Burkina Faso’s dominance on the ball.

Burkina Faso doubled their advantage five minutes from time after Arsene Kouassi scored with a left-footed shot from the middle of the area after making their way into the Sudan box in swift fashion.

Following regulation time, second-placed Burkina Faso completed a 2-0 win over their counterparts, while the Falcons of Jediane progressed to the Round of 16 in third place as well.
