Sudan emerged as 1-0 winners over Equatorial Guinea in their second 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Group E match, which was played at the Mohamed V Stadium on Sunday evening.
The victory took the Falcons of Jediane to third place in the standings as the Nzalang Nacional slipped down to the fourth spot. Sudan and Equatorial Guinea will wrap up their Group E campaign with matches against Burkina Faso, and Algeria, respectively, on December 31.
There were too many stop-starts in the first-half due to injuries, causing a delay in action. As a result, Santiago Eneme was not able to continue due to his injury and will be replaced by Josete Miranda, Equatorial Guinea, being forced into making a change five minutes before the half-hour mark.
The score was 0-0 during the half-time in Morocco’s biggest city, Casablanca, following a tightly contested and physical first-half, which saw the two teams fail to seriously test the two goalkeepers, Jesus Owono and Monged El Neel.
A much better second-half followed and the introduction of Yasir Mozamil in the 72nd minute improved the Falcons of Jediane’s attack. The deadlock was finally broken in the 74th minute when Saul Coco netted an unfortunate own-goal to hand Sudan a 1-0 lead.
Nzalang Nacional reacted by introducing Emilio Nsue in the 77th minute. The veteran attacker picked up the ball in space and unleashed a shot which went inches wide of the left post with 11 minutes left, and Sudan then held on to secure a 1-0 win over Equatorial Guinea.
