Egyptian giant Al Ahly has dished out a harsh punishment to its players following a disappointing loss to Tala’ea El Gaish SC on Monday.

According to African football journalist Micky Junior, the club will deduct money from its players’ salaries as a result of the poor performance and loss to the 14th placed side on the league table.

“Al Ahly are set to deduct a percentage from the players’ salaries following poor performances and tonight’s 2-1 defeat to Tala’ea El Gaish SC,” Micky Junior wrote on X.

“A decision from the club’s hierarchy is expected soon.”

Al Ahly sits third on the standings in the Egyptian Premier League, three points behind both Zamalek and Pyramids. However, league leaders Zamalek have a game in hand over the chasing sides.

Also according to Micky Junior, the club’s head coach Jess Thorup has been given “one last chance” by the club and could be shown the exit if he and his side do not triumph in their CAF Champions League quarterfinal tie against Espérance Sportive de Tunis.

The club has won three, drawn one and lost one of its last five games in the domestic league, but due to the high standards and success expected by the club, changes could be afoot for the second time this season if a sting of wins is not put together.
