Al Ahly’s Morocco international Youssef Belammari suffered a first-degree tear in the origin of his left adductor muscle during a friendly match against ZED FC on Monday.

The Egyptian football powerhouse’s doctor confirmed the injury via scans and stated that left-back-come-winger will undergo a treatment and rehabilitation programme, with many reports indicating he is likely to miss the remainder of Al Ahly’s domestic season.

With the 2026 FIFA World Cup just seven weeks away (starting 11 June), the timing of the injury puts his participation for Morocco in doubt, although a first-degree tear typically requires three to six weeks of recovery, leaving a small window for him to prove his fitness to coach Mohamed Ouahbi.

“Medical scans have shown that Belammari has a muscle tear and he will undergo treatment in the coming period to return to team action,” Al Ahly team doctor Ahmed Gabballah said.

The 27-year-old made his senior debut for Morocco in October 2024 and has earned 15 caps, primarily featuring as a left-back.

He was part of the Morocco squad at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
