Three CAF Champions League matches played across Zanzibar City, Luanda and Rabat on Saturday saw ASFAR emerge as the only winners.

In an afternoon clash in Zanzibar City, Tanzania’s Young Africans held Egyptian powerhouses Al Ahly to a 1-1 draw in their Group B clash. Yanga claimed the lead in injury time before the interval through Ibrahim Hamad, but the 12-time African champions earned a share of the spoils and retained a three-point lead at the top of the log thanks to Aliou Dieng’s equaliser on the hour mark.

In the early evening, Angolan hosts Petro de Luanda held Stade Malien 0-0 at Estadio 11 de Novembro – the Mali team remained top of Group D, but they can be joined on eight points by Esperance de Tunis if the North Africans win in Dar Es Salaam against Simba SC on Sunday.

In the final match of the day, played at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, Morocco’s ASFAR claimed a 1-0 win over Algeria’s JS Kabylie. Hamza Khabb struck in the 74th minute to see the Armed Forces side to a key victory which lifts them to five points on the Group B log – level with Young Africans.

The CAF competitions will continue on Sunday with four Champions League matches and eight Confederation Cup matches, headlined by Pyramids FC hosting RS Berkane, and an Egyptian derby between Al Masry and Zamalek.
