At their fourth FIFA World Cup appearance, Egypt will come up against Belgium, New Zealand and Iran in Group G matches on June 15, 22 and 27 respectively.

Here is a closer look at their head-to-head record against their upcoming opponents:

Egypt boast a fine record against the Red Devils of Belgium, claiming three wins from four International Friendly meetings of the teams. They last met in a World Cup warm-up match in Kuwait in November 2022, with the Pharaohs winning 2-1 thanks to goals from Mostafa Mohamed and Trezeguet.

Belgium’s only win was an emphatic 3-0 score line in a 2018 World Cup warm-up friendly in Brussels, while Egypt triumphed 1-0 and 4-0 in friendlies in March 1999 and February 2005 respectively.

The Pharaohs have an unbeaten record from three matches against New Zealand. The teams first met in back-to-back International Friendlies in July 1999 in Mexico, ending in a 1-1 draw and 1-0 win for the Pharaohs.

The teams’ third and most recent meeting was a FIFA Series (effectively International Friendly) match in Cairo in March 2024. Hossam Hassan’s Egypt claimed a 1-0 win thanks to a 29th minute goal from Mostafa Mohamed.

Last meeting: 6 June 2000, Iran 1-1 Egypt, International Friendly

Egypt and Iran first met in a 1976 International Friendly in Tehran, won 2-1 by the host team thanks to goals from Majid Bishkar and Hassan Nazari, with the Pharaohs striking via Shaker Abdelfattah.

Their most recent clash was a second friendly in Tehran in June 2000 which ended in a 1-1 draw. Current Pharaohs coach Hossam Hassan opened the scoring in the 51st minute, but the legendary Ali Daei equalised shortly thereafter – the 57th of his record 108 senior international goals (since eclipsed only by Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi).
