Former Malawi and Sudan mentor Stephen Constantine has been officially reappointed as head coach of Rwanda, on a two-year renewable contract by the Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA).

The 63-year-old globetrotting Englishman returns for a second spell, having previously led the side from May 2014 to January 2015. During his first tenure, he guided Rwanda to their highest-ever FIFA ranking of 64th – a historic high for the East African nation.

Constantine, who most recently managed Pakistan from 2023 to 2025, takes charge immediately and will also oversee the Under-23 national team.

“The Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA) has appointed Stephen Constantine as the Head Coach of the Rwanda Senior Men National Football Team (Amavubi) and the Rwanda U-23 National Team on a two-year renewable contract,” a statement read.

“His appointment reflects Rwanda’s continued commitment to strengthening football structures and achieving excellence on the continental and global stage.

“Coach Constantine will assume the Amavubi coaching role on Monday, March 16, 2026, and will work with the existing team to prepare the upcoming FIFA Series Tournament due later this month in Kigali City.

“FERWAFA expresses full confidence in Coach Constantine’s leadership, technical expertise, and dedication to advancing Rwanda’s football ambitions.

“The Federation calls upon all stakeholders, partners, supporters, and football fans to unite behind the national team as we embark on this important and transformative journey.

“Further details regarding the appointment, technical plans, and strategic roadmap will be shared during an official press conference scheduled for next week.”
