Luca Zidane could miss Algeria’s 2026 World Cup campaign after suffering facial fractures in Granada’s 4-2 defeat to Almeria on Sunday.
The 27-year-old goalkeeper was floored after colliding with Rojiblancos striker Thalys in the 90th minute and left the pitch with a concussion.
The Nazaries later confirmed that Zidane had sustained fractures to his jaw and chin, which is likely to rule him out for the remainder of the season.
The son of France icon Zinedine Zidane has made 33 appearances in the Segunda Division this term, keeping eight clean sheets in the process and shipping 33 goals.
“Medical tests carried out have revealed that the goalkeeper has also suffered a fracture to his jaw and chin,” a statement from the Spanish club read.
“The player, in consultation with the club’s medical staff, will decide in the coming hours on the course of treatment to be followed for his injury.”
Should surgery be required, then Zidane will be in race against time to recover for the global showpiece in Canada, Mexico and the United States, which gets underway on June 11.
He is the Fennecs’ first-choice keeper, having earned six caps since making his debut against Uganda in a World Cup qualifier on 14 October 2025.
