Manchester City star Antoine Semenyo is ecstatic after becoming the first Ghanaian to score in an FA Cup final, producing a brilliant back-heel winner as the Citizens lifted the trophy on Saturday.
The dreadlocked forward revealed that everything happened so fast that he had to improvise as City claimed a 1-0 a win over Chelsea FC at Wembley Stadium, noting the move had worked perfectly a few times in training.
Semenyo also shared that City manager Pep Guardiola told him not to change his game and to continue creating chaos, as he adjusts to competing for major trophies with City.
“Everything happened so fast to be honest. It came straight to me and I had to improvise myself as quickly as I can,” Semenyo told BBC ONE.
“It has happened a couple of times in training – it happened perfectly today. It is a good finish, I can’t lie. As a kid I have always wanted to be playing for the top teams – it took a long time to get there, but I am grateful.”
On Guardiola’s instructions:”The first thing he [Pep Guardiola] said to me when I came was ‘don’t change your game’. He knows we control the game a lot, he still wants me to be me, still create a bit of chaos.”
On competing for trophies at City:”I have never competed for trophies like this before, so everything is new to me. Hopefully, we can finish the job off.”
On celebrations after the final:”I don’t think there will be much celebrations tonight it is getting ready for Tuesday.” (Ahead of the match against his former club Bournemouth).”
The 26-year-old could complete a domestic treble in his debut season at City after winning the Carabao Cup and FA Cup, with the Premier League title now within reach as the Citizens sit just two points behind leaders Arsenal with two games left.
