Democratic Republic of the Congo and Pyramids FC striker Fiston Mayele has ended his 122-day wait for a goal, scoring in Pyramids’ 3-1 win over Ghazl El Mahallah at the El-Gazel Stadium on Tuesday to become the club’s all-time leading goalscorer.
The 31-year old netted for the first time since 21 October, scoring his 50th goal for the club to become its all time leading goalscorer, overtaking Ibrahim Adel.
Before Tuesday’s victory, Mayele had not hit the back of the net for the club in 125 days.
The reigning CAF Champions League winners advanced to the quarterfinals of this year’s edition and sit second in the Egyptian Premier League, level with Zamalek on 37 points but behind by two goals on goal difference.
Mayele will need to be in top form for his country as DR Congo will face the winner of New Caledonia and Jamaica in their FIFA World Cup 2026 Play-Off Tournament final in March, with the winner booking its place at the global showpiece.
