South African coach Rhulani Mokwena has been tipped to join Libyan giants Al Ittihad after officially parting ways with MC Alger by mutual agreement after a successful but brief eight-month stint.

The 39-year-old tactician led Alger to the Algerian Super Cup and a strong league position as they are placed at the top of the Algerian Ligue Professionnelle 1 standings.

Mokwena has been backed to join Al-Ittihad Tripoli on a two-and-a-half-year contract, reuniting with former players like Thembinkosi Lorch in what promises to be an ambitious project for CAF success.

“The management of Algeria MC announces the departure of South African coach Rulani Mokwena from the club’s technical model, following the activation of the clause that ends his duties as head of the first team, where the contract ensures that Benda pays the coach two salaries in case he wishes to leave,” Alger statement read.

“The decision came after the coach met with the club’s management, during which he expressed his conviction to end his experience with the team, after a career that lasted eight months.

“During this period, Mokwena managed to lead the dean to crown the Algerian Premier Cup title “Super Cup”. The team under his supervision has maintained the top of the professional league ranking since the first rounds of the season, in an experience that also saw the team exit from the competition of the Copa Algeria and the CAF Champions League.

“The management of MC Algeria would like to express its gratitude and appreciation to coach Rolani Mokwena and his technical staff for the work and efforts they have put forward during their supervision of the team, they wish them all the best and success in their upcoming professional stations. Management of MC Algeria.”
