Mohamed Salah has announced he will be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season after the club agreed to cut short his contract by one year.
The Egypt international eventually signed a new two-year deal with the Reds in April 2025 following drawn-out discussions and helped them to a record-equalling 20th top-flight title after plundering 29 goals.
However, Salah has struggled for form this term and publicly fell out with Arne Shot after being dropped, leading to him contributing just five goals and six assists in 22 Premier League appearances.
The 33-year-old winger has achieved legend status at Anfield after scoring 255 goals in 435 games across all competitions to put him third in the club’s all-time scoring charts.
Salah has set a plethora of records during his almost nine years on Merseyside, including most goals in a debut season (44), the highest-scoring African in Premier League history (191), most Premier League games with both a goal and assist (42), to name but a few.
But he will now become a free agent in the summer after reaching an agreement with the reigning English champions to allow him to depart one year earlier.
Salah’s farewell message to Reds supporters reads in full:
“Hello everyone, unfortunately the day has come. This is the first part of my farewell. I will be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season.
“I wanted to start by saying that I never imagined how deeply this club, this city, these people would become part of my life.
“Liverpool is not just a football club, it’s a passion, it’s a history, it’s a spirit. I can’t explain in words to anyone not part of this club.
“We celebrated victory, we won the most important trophies and we fought together through the hardest time in our life.
“I want to thank everyone who was part of this club throughout my time here, especially the team-mates past and present.
“And to the fans, I don’t have enough words. The support you showed me through the best time of my career and you stood by me in the toughest times.
“It’s something I will never forget and something I will take with me always. Leaving is never easy. You gave me the best time of my life. I will be always one of you.
“This club will always be my home to me and to my family. Thank you for everything. Because of all of you, I will never walk alone.”
