Egypt national team doctor Ibrahim Hassan confirmed that Mohamed Salah’s injury will require about four weeks of treatment.
The accomplished attacker sustained the injury during Liverpool FC’s 3-1 win against Crystal Palace in an English Premier League match played at Anfield over the weekend.
This likely marks the end of Salah’s time at Anfield after he announced his departure, though he is expected to recover in time for Egypt’s 2026 World Cup campaign in Group G.
“He has suffered a hamstring tear and will require four weeks of treatment,” Hassan told Reuters.
Salah made his senior debut for Egypt in 2011 and has become the team’s talisman and captain, earning 115 caps and scoring 67 goals (as of mid-January 2026).
The 32-year-old has led Egypt to two Africa Cup of Nations finals (runners-up in 2017 and 2021), helped qualify for the 2018 World Cup (scoring twice in the group stage), and secured qualification for the 2026 World Cup.
Nicknamed the Egyptian King, he is currently chasing Egypt’s all-time scoring record held by Hossam Hassan (69 goals); Salah sits second with 67 and has a strong goals-per-cap ratio (0.58).
He is also Egypt’s seventh most-capped player.
