Ghana are set to make only their fifth appearance at the World Cup and they will contest Group L alongside England, Croatia and Panama.

The Black Stars made their debut at the global showpiece in 2006, surprising many when they beat Czech Republic 2-0 and the United States 2-1 to qualify for the round of 16. Their escapades in Germany ended there as the West Africans suffered a 3-0 defeat against five-time world champions Brazil.

Under the guidance of Milovan Rajevac, Ghana went even further in South Africa four years later when they became only the third team from the continent to reach the quarter-finals. Rajevac’s side claimed a 1-0 victory over Serbia, drew 1-1 with Australia and narrowly lost 1-0 to Germany which was enough to see them through to the knockout stages for the second consecutive tournament.

After defeating the United States 2-1 (AET) in the round of 16, they were eliminated by Uruguay 4-2 on penalties in the last eight following a 1-1 draw.

The Black Stars failed to win any of their group games at the 2014 edition in Brazil and they missed out on the 2018 World Cup before making their return in 2022.

The four-time Africa Cup of Nations champions were involved in some thrillers in Qatar, going down 3-2 to Portugal and then besting South Korea by the same scoreline before Uruguay again dashed their dream with a 2-0 success to send them packing in the group stages.
