Big-name clubs like Zamalek, USM Alger, and Mamelodi Sundowns secured their places in the CAF inter-club semi-finals following Sunday’s decisive second-leg matches.
In the Confederation Cup, Zamalek emerged as Egypt’s sole survivor, overcoming Otoho d’Oyo 3-2 on aggregate (1-1 away, 2-1 home) after earlier exits for Al Ahly, Pyramids, and Al Masry.
USM Alger advanced on away goals thanks to a 1-0 home win over Maniema Union (2-2 aggregate), while Olympique de Safi caused a shock by eliminating Wydad Casablanca on away goals in an all-Moroccan duel (3-3 aggregate: 1-1 first leg, 2-2 second leg).
The semi-finals will see USM Alger face Olympique de Safi and Zamalek take on Algerian giants CR Belouizdad.
In the Champions League, RS Berkane joined fellow Moroccan side AS FAR Rabat in the last four by beating Al Hilal Omdurman 2-1 on aggregate (1-0 second leg).
Mamelodi Sundowns held on despite a 2-0 loss to Stade Malien, progressing 3-2 overall courtesy of their strong 3-0 first-leg lead.
The semi-final draw sets Sundowns against Tunisian champions Esperance de Tunis, with an all-Moroccan showdown between Berkane and AS FAR Rabat.
