Moroccan superstar Achraf Hakimi equalled Samuel Eto’o’s record by winning his third UEFA Champions League title after Paris Saint-Germain defeated Arsenal FC in the 2025/26 final.
At just 27 years old, the right-back now shares the record for the most Champions League titles by an African player, matching the three titles Eto’o won with Barcelona (2006, 2009) and Inter Milan (2010).
The achievement also sees Hakimi equal the Cameroonian icon’s feat of back-to-back Champions League triumphs, further cementing his status among Africa’s most decorated footballers, having been also crowned champion with Real Madrid in 2018.
Hakimi said it was not easy to win back-to-back Champions League titles but they achieved it, praising PSG manager Luis Enrique as the big voice of the club who built a family by emphasising that the team is more important than any individual player.
“It’s not easy to do it back to back, but we did. I say every time the same, the coach is the big voice of the club. We follow him, we trust in him,” Hakimi said in the post match interview.
“Since day one he told us the team is more important than the player. “We are really happy to have him. We have created not just a team but a family.”
Morocco, led by star player and captain Hakimi—fresh off back-to-back UCL triumphs with PSG—will open their 2026 World Cup campaign in Group C against Brazil on June 14, followed by Scotland (June 20) and Haiti (June 25), with high hopes of advancing deep into the tournament.
