Stephen Appiah, who serves as the Vice Chairman of the Ghana National team management committee believes that Mohammed Kudus will be be a big miss for the Black Stars at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
After suffering a hamstring injury in January, Kudus was set for an April return but has since hit another snag on his way to full fitness. With Kudus set to miss the tournament as a whole, Ghana face a crucial decision on how to replace the Spurs star.
Kudus was a star performer for Ghana during the 2022 FIFA World Cup, where he scored two goals in three games in Group H. The skilful attacker notably scored the winning goal in a 3-2 win against South Korea at the showpiece, where he became the first Ghanian to score two goals in a single World Cup match.
“We know his contribution to the team, but even during playing days, when a player is not available, we went ahead to play the game,” Appiah told Asempa FM, as per GhanaSoccernet.
“So we should go ahead with that level of belief that when someone is not around, someone will be there to replace him.
“Kudus is him, and when he is available, and he plays, he gives the team a lift, but we should just pray and see what happens because I am equally impressed with the performance of some of our players playing abroad.”
