USM Alger has appointed former TP Mazembe boss Lamine Ndiaye as the club’s new head coach.

This is according to African football journalist Micky Junior.

Ndiaye will take over from Tarek Hadj Adlane, who has been acting as caretaker manager for the club.

Adlane was appointed following the departure of Abdelhak Benchikha, who resigned from his second stint as the club’s head coach at the end of January.

Ndiaye brings vast continental experience, having helped TP Mazembe lift the CAF Champions League title in 2010 and reach the FIFA Club World Cup final in the same year.

The coach was sacked by the Congolese club in his second stint as head coach, which lasted from April 2023 to late January 2026.

According to Micky Junior, the 69-year-old has agreed to a six month deal, with the option to extend.

USM Alger claimed top spot in group A of the CAF Confederation Cup with a goalless draw with second-placed OC Safi at the 5 July 1962 Stadium in Algiers on Saturday night.

They will discover their opponent for the quarterfinals on Tuesday.

In addition, the club sits eighth on the Algerian Ligue Professionnelle 1 standings with five wins, nine draws and one loss. However, USM Alger has four games in hand and could advance up the table.
