President of the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, Ibrahim Gusau, has provided an update on Eric Chelle’s contract status.
This comes after the Malian coach led the Super Eagles to win the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Bronze after beating Egypt last weekend.
Chelle was appointed head coach of the Super Eagles in January 2025 and there has been uncertainty regarding his future with the Super Eagles.
“For now, there’ll be no contract extension discussion with Chelle,” Gasau told Osasu Obayiuwana.
“We signed a 2-year contract with him in January 2025 and he’s still only halfway through his contract.”
Chelle is likely to be in charge of Nigeria’s yet-to-be-confirmed friendly matches in March, with the team having failed to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup finals.
The Super Eagles will take part in the 2027 AFCON qualifiers later this year.
