Benni McCarthy insists he remains committed to Kenya amid renewed speculation linking him with the vacancy at Kaizer Chiefs.
The Bafana Bafana legend is building towards the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations and will no longer experiment with team selection as he wants to assemble a strong core while also adding depth to his squad.
The Harambee Stars will host the continental showpiece alongside East African neighbours Tanzania and Uganda, with McCarthy’s loyalties set to be tested after being drawn in the same qualifying group as South Africa.
Meanwhile, the Glamour Boys are on the lookout for a new head coach after parting ways with Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze this week, leading to rumours that McCarthy could be tempted back to his homeland.
However, the 48-year-old – who previously coached Cape Town City and AmaZulu in the Betway Premiership – stated that Amakhosi will have to look elsewhere to solve their managerial issues.
“My duty is Kenya right now because that is where I have a contract and where my responsibilities lie,” McCarthy declared.
“Chiefs have their own issues to deal with, and they will find a way to solve them. As long as it does not involve me, it is not something I concern myself with.”
He added: “I am no longer going to experiment when it comes to player call-ups and squad selection.
“We have seen before where experiments led to an 8-0 defeat, and nobody wanted to take responsibility for it. One thing I can promise is that we will not suffer an 8-0 loss like the one against Senegal.”
