Antoine Semenyo has explained that his early success at Manchester City has been “all about adapting”.

The Ghanaian attacker joined the Citizens from Bournemouth in the January transfer window, but has picked up where he left off with the Cherries – including a decisive strike in the win over Leeds United this past weekend.

Semenyo has had to play a different role for City compared to Bournemouth, but explains that he is enjoying the challenge set for him by manager Pep Guardiola.

“The hard work starts every day in training,” noted the Ghanaian international. “The boys just make it so easy for me to adapt, they try to play to my strengths. Same with the coach, he’s trying to help me just be confident, be calm in some moments, and pop up and score some goals.”

He added, “It’s all about adapting. I’m enjoying the process, and I’m playing around world-class players, so it’s making me better and keeping me on my toes.”

The forward admitted that adjusting to Guardiola’s tactical demands has not been straightforward: “It’s been tough, it hasn’t been easy. I think how he wants me to be is high in attacking positions, be out wide – and once we have the ball defensively, be narrow. It’s obviously not easy, it’s a hard graft, but I’m quite versatile in that sense.”

Semenyo will hope to continue his form when Man City host Nottingham Forest on Wednesday evening.
